Job Description

Position Summary

The Compliance Associate is responsible for assigned compliance, risk, and third-party risk management (TPRM) functions within the Legal & Risk Department. This position performs various compliance and risk management related tasks, and prepares recurring reports and summaries for analysis in furtherance of the companys risk management program. This position will report to the companys Legal & Risk Compliance Manager.

The firm has one available position in either Austin, TX; Long Beach, CA; Portland, OR; or San Francisco, CA. Some positions at Novogradac may be open to remote or hybrid work arrangements depending on business needs. Please discuss available options with your recruiter.

Your Contributions and Position

  • Research compliance, licensing, and registration requirements for state and local jurisdictions and prepare summaries and/or reports for review by the Legal & Risk Compliance Manager or the companys other attorneys.
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual tasks related to company compliance with professional, local, state, and federal regulations, including preparation of company registrations and/or licensing documents.
  • Assist in responding to various internal stakeholder requests related to the companys policies, procedures, and legal compliance.
  • Monitor compliance team email account and direct inquiries appropriately.
  • Prepare draft questionnaires, notifications, and other communications for review as part of the companys TPRM program.
  • Review completed questionnaires and responses from the companys vendors and suppliers, and prepare summaries, remediation plans, and/or risk assessments for review.
  • Prepare responses and gather documentation to respond to risk questionnaires sent by the companys clients.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with various company stakeholders and client/vendor representatives.
  • Perform tasks related to new client due diligence; make recommendations on action items based on findings.
  • Update and respond to requests for business insurance certificates, policy changes, etc. and assist in completion of annual insurance policy applications as directed.
  • Additional duties and projects as assigned.

Your Background and Skills

  • Bachelors degree plus 1-3 years of relevant compliance experience.
  • Prior experience working with attorneys or in a professional services firm a plus.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and effectively prioritize a fast-paced and varied workload, effectively manage a variety of concurrent and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to accurately research compliance, licensing, and registration rules and efficiently organize and present findings for review and recommendation.
  • High ethical standards and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Prior experience working with licensing and regulating authorities is a plus.
  • Superior organizational and follow-through skills, performing work accurately with strong attention to detail.
  • Display strong analytical skills, including the ability to gather information, conduct analyses, present findings, and create solutions.
  • Strong computer skills, including solid skill in the Microsoft Office suite, in particular with Excel, as well as experience using accounting software systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Compensation: $72,000 to $85,000 depending on experience. More is possible if experience dictates.
