Job Overview

We are looking for a Community Affairs Director to join our team and help us build strong relationships and provide value to the communities where we operate. You will be responsible for developing and executing community affairs plans; representing NET Power to community leaders and stakeholders; and ensuring NET Powers developments align with local needs, values, and priorities. This role reports to the Head of Energy Policy and will play a critical part in bringing NET Powers projects to life in ways that enhance local communities.

This position is ideally based in the Midland, TX region, but could also be based in our Houston, TX office or remote within the United States. (If Houston based, you will work in the energy corridor at 11720 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079). NET Power offers a hybrid work schedule, 3 days in office and 2 days remote.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement an overall community engagement strategy, including specific community engagement and communications plans to support the development of NET Power facilities, with an initial focus on Project Permian in Texas and increasing work on facilities in other jurisdictions.
  • Working with NET Power origination, policy, marketing, and technical resources, survey project locations to craft location-specific information, messaging, and outreach needs.
  • Identify stakeholders and lead local outreach, acting as relationship lead with municipal and county officials, tax authorities, industry associations, Economic Development Organizations, and other local entities. Identify additional 3rd party support and resources where necessary.
  • Develop related community engagement budgets and plans and provide cost accountability with relevant Origination and Engineering project teams.
  • Analyze and communicate local economic development and community benefits related to NET Power projects and related investments.
  • Research target project locations and identify key stakeholders, stakeholder issues, land use context, economic conditions, and other factors necessary to understand the relevant local social, environmental, and economic conditions.
  • Generate presentations, social media posts, and other content to help communicate NET Powers visions and actions.
  • Develop internal presentations to educate NET Power teams and management about project stakeholders and community members.
  • Formalize, and manage NET Powers general approach and policies for community engagement across all projects.
  • Create blueprint for standard NET Power engagement, including priorities and processes, ensuring alignment with NET Power values and formal external party requirements (e.g., US Department of Energy).
  • Work collaboratively with Origination, Legal, Operational Excellence, and others to bring blueprint approach to life efficiently and effectively across projects.
  • Identify and onboard internal and 3rd party resources to mobilize and support the greater strategy.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, sustainability, public policy, or related field. Technology backgrounds are also suitable if coupled with relevant experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience in community relations, sustainability, public policy, or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and execute successful community relations campaigns with highest levels of ethics and professionalism.
  • Personable manner and ability to build trust with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Creative, innovative, and passionate about clean energy and sustainability.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in leveraging relevant software and tools for project management and communication.
  • Personable and a good sense of humor.
