We are seeking a creative, proactive and motivated person to be our full-time Communications Specialist. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a fast-paced environment, able to multitask and is very team oriented. This role will support traditional fundraising efforts through public speaking, networking and innovative partnerships but will also be asked to help with communications related to our product sales and partner relations.
Great communication skills and job flexibility are critical to this position. We are a small team with a very specific mission. Our philosophy is very much mission driven and it also applies to our approach to selling our canopy product. The foundation exists to serve our mission and the sales of our products exist to serve the foundation.
Couillard Solar Foundation is a small nonprofit located in Deerfield, WI (just a few minutes from Madison, WI). Our mission is to advance the implementation of solar technology in WI through grants to other Wisconsin nonprofits and education about solar power, clean energy and sustainability. We support our mission through the sale of solar technology, grants and donations.
Responsibilities
Marketing & Communications
- Work with the Executive Director and team to develop a sales/marketing plan which includes a potential calendar of marketing events and a budget
- Work with management to identify and develop new marketing materials and opportunities
- Update and maintain the CSF and Couillard Canopies websites
- Distribute materials upon request
- Support the generation and review of social media content for media outlets regarding the Couillard Solar Foundation, Couillard Canopies and related news items. Work with the management team to assure that these items align with foundation-related social media content.
- Create a regular newsletter and maintain mailing list with CSF Team input
- Develop and create CSF collateral materials with CSF Team input which may include canopy sales materials, proposal updates, etc., ads & brochures, event materials and signage
- Manage CSF photo files including taking photos upon request, preparing photos for use in print and online
- Write press releases, case studies, articles, etc. upon request, with input from CSF team
CRM & Data Entry
- Work with team members to assure that CRM relating to canopy sales is up to date and that records are updated when necessary.
- Assist in the creation of documents, spreadsheets and other tools and resources within CRM necessary to meet team needs.
- Provide follow up sales support with CSF Partner organizations (this is not sales but may include tasks such as following up on order status, sending relevant documents to customers upon request, or assisting partners/customers with questions or concerns)
Event Planning
Assist CSF with the planning and execution of events, including Solstock (fundraiser concert) and the Solar Series (educational events throughout the year) This includes:
- Planning committee meetings
- Marketing materials development and distribution (signs, flyers, etc.)
- Event set up and take down
- Assist with the development of an event sponsorship program
- Periodically attend/represent CSF at conferences, ribbon cuttings or other events where you will take photos and potentially speak on behalf of the foundation
- Assist in the development of relationships with potential grant recipients, partners and/or donors or sponsors
Other Duties
- Meet regularly with the Director to discuss priorities, progress and metrics
- Meet regularly with the team to discuss issues and opportunities concerning communications, marketing or other opportunities, including upcoming events or activities that will impact the team and feedback from partners and end-user customers on issues relating to CSF, Couillard Canopies and the Partner Program
- Assist with grant program support through review, analysis and action related to grant program survey results
- Effectively communicate CSF’s mission, products and process to the public
- Work with the team to assure that all communications related activities are compatible with the nonprofit/grant program aspects of the foundation
- Assist with preparation, planning and tracking of grant or prize applications, as they relate to the Couillard Solar Foundation, Couillard Canopies and associated processes
- Other tasks or duties as assigned by Director
Qualifications
- Requires two or more years of communications experience, preferably in the nonprofit field.
- Great communication skills, specifically writing, editing and public speaking – We’re looking for someone who can create inviting, attention-grabbing content.
- Website maintenance experience (WordPress)
- Must be detail-oriented with good time management skills
- Excellent problem solving skills including the ability to analyze a situation, planning and organization skills
- Flexible and able to work in a highly collaborative environment
- Able to accommodate limited, periodic travel (mostly 1 day trips with the occasional overnight trip, planned well in advance)
- Also desirable – A passion for social justice, clean energy, sustainability, and climate change mitigation
Position Details
- Salary range: $46,000 – $52,000/year
- Benefits include: PTO, Paid holidays, Bonus program
- Work hours: Full time (40 hours), Monday-Friday (flexible start/end times)
- Very occasional evenings/weekends with advance notice.
- Location: Our offices are at 10 Liberty Street, Deerfield, WI 53531 – some limited WFH is available after the 90 day probationary period, with the permission of the director, but this is primarily an in-office position.
