Job Overview

The Climatetech Venture Investment Fellowship at the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) is an outstanding opportunity for aspiring venture investors, entrepreneurs, and others with interests in clean energy and climate technology and business. The Fellow will work alongside the Investments team at MassCEC to source, evaluate, execute, and manage equity and venture debt investments in the most promising climatetech start-ups in Massachusetts. Fellows will also collaborate with MassCECs experts in offshore wind, clean transportation, buildings, and grid technology, and will have frequent chances to extend their networks with start-ups and venture investors through research projects and attendance at events.


Duties

  • Help to find, evaluate and track new investment opportunities in clean energy and climate technology ventures;
  • Support investment staff carrying out technical, financial and commercial due diligence on potential investments;
  • Assist in preparing recommendations for investment to be presented to senior management, the Investments Committee and the Board of Directors;
  • Help to provide support to companies in our investment portfolio;
  • Organize and lead the twice-yearly request for information process to track portfolio companies financial, commercial and environmental performance;
  • Research and analyze topics in clean-energy industries to keep investment staff informed of the latest trends;
  • Attend conferences and meetings with entrepreneurs, investors and partners of MassCEC;
  • Keep agendas, schedules, minutes and other administrative tasks as required.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or higher degree with excellent academic standing.
  • We welcome applicants from various backgrounds and experience levels for this role. Whether you’re a college undergraduate (sophomore or higher) or a graduate student, pursuing a degree in science, environmental studies, business administration, public policy, or any related field, we encourage you to apply. Basic requirements:

  • Clear interests in clean energy or climate markets, technology and venture investing.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Good ability to write, present, and effectively communicate findings

Outstanding candidates may also have:

  • Past work on venture investments, especially in energy, climate or industrial technology.
  • Financial analysis skills in Excel.
  • Entrepreneurial experience.


Salary and Timing

  • The fellow will earn $20 per hour and be eligible to work for up to 40 hours per week.
  • Must be available to work full-time between January and June 2025
