Position Overview

In this role you will be responsible for managing CarbonBetters climate services team globally, and driving CarbonBetters work on those issues across consulting, strategy and business development verticals. The Manager of Climate Services will be part of CarbonBetters Climate Services team, which manages client delivery, and performance oversight across all of CarbonBetters programmatic areas.

The ideal candidate will play a leading role in delivery, oversight, and hands-on support for consulting services, carbon-supported projects, and collaborations to companies across a range of sectors. The manager will work actively with project teams and provide thought partnership to senior leadership with deep knowledge of sustainability accounting and reporting (GHG accounting including Scope 1,2 and 3, Product LCAs, reporting and disclosure frameworks, regulations etc.).

We seek someone who is passionate about numbers, gets excited about delivering superior client service and is a good fit for a collaborative and dynamic startup environment. The Manager in the climate services team will assume a player / coach role, leading sustainability focused client engagements, together with climate analysts, across all stages of the clients sustainability journey – from conducting materiality assessments, quantifying environmental impacts including scope 1,2 and 3, generating annual sustainability reports to supporting development of decarbonization strategies and carbon offsetting plans.

The Manager of climate services may also support the carbon offset team and help to facilitate clients participation in the voluntary carbon markets.


Work Location

Our HQ is in Austin, TX, and you may be asked to travel to Austin or client locations for select meetings and events. The CarbonBetter team and tools are optimized for remote work flexibility and effective collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Targeted experience: 5+ years in the field of corporate sustainability across consulting and industry including experience in estimating scope 3 in complex environments- Net zero transformation, business within planetary boundaries, climate scenario analysis, LCA analysis; and/with
    • Nice to have- experience in nature assessments, nature strategy and biodiversity road-mapping, SBTN target setting, and TNFD implementation.

  • Technical sustainability knowledge: Tenacious understanding of GHG accounting methodologies, standards and protocols for environmental and climate disclosures, and other relevant information (GHG protocol, EPA emissions factor hub, reporting and disclosure frameworks, regulations) and claims and targets (SBTi etc.)

  • Leadership: Experience and interest in leading small teams and driving a collaborative team culture. Ability to break a project into workstreams and effectively manage them across various touchpoints tail to tip.

  • Client service: Passion to serve clients and support them in their sustainability journey. Ability to lead client engagements with minimal supervision

  • Thought Leadership Development: Experience in developing external facing and internal thought leadership pieces on a variety of sustainability related topics.

  • Entrepreneurship: Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities to expand project impact beyond current work highlighting an entrepreneurial mindset; Engagement in client development proposals

  • Monitoring and Continuous Improvement: Continued evaluation of company policies, external research, and emerging viewpoints to improve effectiveness of CarbonBetters sustainability efforts.


About You

  • Deep knowledge and experience in key climate or sustainability content areas, such as the areas of work listed above.

  • Track record of success in business development, relationship management, and exercising influence on sustainable business matters with senior leaders.

  • Significant experience (at least 5+yrs) required to lead and oversee consulting projects including: developing and maintaining senior-level relationships; and overseeing multiple projects.

  • Exceptional client counselor and ability to lead client engagements with minimal supervision

  • Emerging strength as a people developer, proven leadership and people skills, including a demonstrated ability to mentor other team members to improve skills and effectiveness.

  • Capacity to work and thrive in a growing, fast-paced entrepreneurial organization with a collaborative environment.

  • Field experience in climate studies, sustainability, carbon reduction, regenerative agriculture, or forest carbon is a plus

  • Master’s degree in related field, followed by relevant and impactful work experience

  • Characteristics: inquisitive; analytical; insightful; communicative; mission-driven; detail oriented

  • Values: belief in science-based solutions for climate change; recognition of the power to drive change from within

  • Outstanding verbal, written, and facilitation skills.

  • Willingness to undertake business travel (up to 20% of time).
