Position Overview

The early career Chemist role will contribute to the applied research and development group at Numat. This individual will focus on material formations, scaling and optimization to support early-stage material discovery for adsorbent manufacturing processes in Numat’s development pipeline. In applied R&D, this individual will shepherd new technology through stages 1 and 2 (out of 5) of Numat’s stage-gate process.

This role will require interfacing with the Director of R&D and the Product Development Manager to identify and fully characterize materials for new products. Once materials are identified, this individual will seamlessly transition efforts to the engineering team for manufacturing. Expect significant ownership of projects with freedom to explore, design, and evaluate adsorbent materials. This role reports directly to the Product Development Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the formulation and formation of new materials, developing methods for formation in scale up of new materials
  • Assist R&D projects to synthesize, form, and perform post synthetic modifications to evaluate and characterize high-performing adsorbent materials at the proof-of-concept level for gas storage, filtration, or purification
  • Assist in designing and executing experiments to predict full-scale system level performance, identify key process variables, validate stability and lifetime, and define operating windows
  • Assist in the development of technology transfer packages for pilot-scale evaluation (operation procedures, quality gates, etc.)
  • Employ appropriate techniques/methods to successfully and independently execute routine assignments within negotiated deadlines
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant QSR and safety requirements while building knowledge of other regulatory requirements related to R&D (product development, design, and safety) to ensure compliance in all research, data collection and reporting activities
  • Assist in the development of data packages to support business and commercial teams in product commercialization

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related science field required
  • Minimum of two years R&D industry experience
