ESS is seeking a motivated and versatile Chemical Operator to join our team. The role will be focused on producing electrolyte on-site by mixing dry and wet chemicals according to a recipe and monitoring the reaction to completion while complying with all environmental and health safety standards.

What youll do at ESS.

  • Weigh, process, and mix all dry and wet ingredients in the prescribed amounts to produce electrolyte for our iron flow batteries.
  • Monitor the reaction over time to make sure all parameters like temperature stay within production and safety requirements.
  • Move 50-pound buckets of ingredients manually and with a forklift.
  • Ensure all safety precautions and health protocols are being followed at all times.
  • Identify any issues in the production process and work with supervisors and engineering to troubleshoot the issues.
  • Report any on-site accidents and injuries to senior management and EH&S.
  • Oversee the quality of the production process and suggest improvements.
  • Wear safety gear when appropriate respirator and ~20% of the time a full body protective suit.
  • Ensure that the chemicals are handled and transported in a safe manner.
  • Work with supervisors and engineering to make sure all equipment is maintained and in working order.
  • Store and label the chemicals in the correct containers.
  • Record production data.

What you bring to the table.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a chemical manufacturing environment with dynamic daily priorities.
  • Forklift certified or capable or being certified upon hire.
  • The ability to use a computer system to monitor chemical reactions.
  • Knowledge of English/Metric system measurement.
  • Ability to understand and comply with all environmental health and safety standards.
  • The ability to lift 50-pounds repeatedly.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.

Wed love to see:

  • Familiarity with exothermic reactions.
  • Background and/or experience with chemistry.
