Job Description Idaho Laboratory is hiring a Chemical Engineer to work in our Modeling & Simulation department. Our team works a 9×80 schedule onsite in Idaho Falls, Idaho with every other Friday off. As a chemical engineer, you will apply chemical engineering principles to computational modeling of fluid dynamics and heat transfer processes, with an emphasis on multiphase flow and chemical reactions. You will entail diverse applications, spanning waste management, nuclear and renewable energy, additive manufacturing, and clean energy systems. Responsibilities Include:
  • Document the design (controlled and approved models, drawings, specifications, and design descriptions) to establish conformance with design requirements and applicable codes and standards.
  • Establish testing, inspection, and quality requirements to ensure technical features important to design functions are maintained.
  • Oversee or otherwise ensure that fabrication, construction, assembly, and procurement are done in accordance with the design.
  • Develop processes for separating components of liquids and gasses, or for generating electrical currents, by using controlled chemical processes.
  • Utilize programming to develop and implement process controls and tracking mechanisms for existing applications and processes/newly implemented process, equipment, and applications that support and interface with the overarching programmatic drivers, interfaces, and goals.

Qualifications:Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering or directly related engineering from an ABET- accredited institution. EX1 – 0 years experience and EX2 – 2 years experience
  • Experience with modeling and simulation of computer-aided design, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, chemical reactions
  • Experience with high-performance computing systems
  • Proficiency in chemical or mechanical engineering, chemistry, physics
  • Experience commensurate with level.
  • Must have strong verbal and written skills.
  • Depending on work assignment, experience with advanced programming (Python, LINUX, etc.).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance (“Q” or higher).
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy “Q” clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Job Information

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 1 ($$63,528 – $130,284 ) / Level 2 ( $75,804 – $155,496). At Idaho Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • You are required to show a demonstrated commitment to valuing and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
