Department: CO2 Segment, Energy Transition Ventures Team

Location: HYBRID Work Schedule – Houston Headquarters (Monday Wednesday), Remote Work-From-Home (Thursdays and Fridays)

Kinder Morgan, Inc. is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America. It has an interest in or operates ~82,000 miles of pipelines and 140 terminals across the country. As a leading operator of natural gas infrastructure in the United States, KMI is responsible for transporting ~40% of the natural gas utilized for heat, industrial processes & power, and it is the largest underground natural gas storage operator in the country with over 700 Billion Cubic Feet of working gas capacity across 1,200 wells.

As a leader in the burgeoning energy transition landscape, KMI formed its Energy Transition Ventures team in 2021 dedicated to identifying, analyzing, and pursuing economic commercial opportunities that align with its long-term strategy of investing prudently in low-carbon and renewable energy assets. As of 2024, the Team has created a portfolio of ~$1.2 Billion in assets via three separate M&A transactions and several organic expansion projects. The Team is seeking an analytical, intellectually curious, and meticulous Business Development Analyst to join our team and facilitate its ongoing growth.


Key Responsibilities
:

  • Market Research & Analysis: Conduct thorough market research to identify potential strategic economically actionable opportunities across the broader energy transition landscape, focusing on new technologies, emerging markets, and dynamic evolving industry trends as they unfold. Key areas of focus will include (1) Renewable Natural Gas sourced from Landfills, Dairy Farms, and other potential biofuels operating sites, (2) Carbon Capture Sequestration & Transportation opportunities, (3) Clean Hydrogen infrastructure opportunities, (4) Solar & Wind technologies, (5) Batteries & Long Duration Energy Storage technologies, and (6) other growing potentially economic energy transition verticals as they evolve and mature.
  • Opportunity Evaluation: Assess potential projects and business ventures, including feasibility studies, economic analysis, and risk assessment.
  • Strategic Planning: Assist in developing strategic plans and business cases for new ventures, including detailed financial models and scenario analysis.
  • Project Development Support: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the development and execution of projects, from inception to execution, implementation, and integration.
  • Industry Networking: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, industry experts, and potential partners to stay informed about industry developments and commercial opportunities.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate findings and recommendations to senior management.
  • Tracking: Maintain an ongoing business development tracking tool to monitor ongoing project opportunities and their status to completion.

Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors Degree; engineering, finance, or a related technical field a plus.
  • Preferred Previous Experience: 3-5 years of professional corporate, investment banking, or private equity experience desired. Technical experience a plus.


Skills & Competencies
:

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and provide actionable insights in a prompt and precise manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and economic analysis a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced dynamic team-oriented environment.

  • Some travel may be required on an occasional, infrequent basis.
  • Job level will be determined based on the successful candidates skills and qualifications
  • This is a highly visible role with significant interface with the Companys senior management team.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States
