We currently have an outstanding career opportunity for a BESS Commissioning Engineer. Use your field engineering and hands-on skills to be responsible for all phases of commissioning sophisticated software control systems with requirements devoted to grid-integrated clean energy, including solar PV and energy storage. This role will ensure that Doosan GridTech’s DGIC power plant controller solution is properly configured, validated and put into operation with the system architecture that ensures compliance with all performance requirements. Your primary goal is to commission GridTech’s DGIC power plant controller solution to utility-scale BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) and Hybrid (PV + BESS) projects. In this effort, you will work closely with others in our Software Systems Engineering team through all aspects of product and system definition, design, development, and delivery, and see your solutions deployed with real-world power system operators.

We require customer engagement and listening skills, energy market knowledge, ability to collaborate and build consensus, hands-on skills with RTAC and SCADA systems (SEL products especially) and a solid grasp of the professional software development process. Required

  • Willingness to travel to customer sites in the US for commissioning and testing.

Desired

  • 5 + years of experience with RTU and SCADA systems design, implementation, lab and site testing
  • Strong power system field engineering skills.
  • Understanding of the main components of utility-scale electrical power systems, including power conversion systems, batteries, and transformers.
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of configuring and testing of Schweitzer Engineering Labs (SEL) network products, including RTACs, Controllers, Meters, Relays, Network Switches, etc.
  • Ability to use various systems configuration management, programming and testing technologies and tools.
  • Knowledge of control engineering design principles.
  • Experience working on Commercial or Utility-scale, energy storage and PV systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Experienced in recording test data, creating test documentation, trouble shooting, following safe testing methods and procedures, using professional electrical power system test equipment, and analyzing test data.

Responsibilities

  • Provide maintenance, support and enhancements for existing systems and platforms.
  • Partner with our systems, power and software engineers in addition to customers to identify and harvest valuable product features embedded within our customer project deliverables.
  • Work with and manage subcontractors to execute field commissioning tasks and ensure proper documentation.
  • Manage the inherent tensions between our project responsibilities and our product and market objectives and help to refine and scale this process as our company grows.
  • Author and ensure creation of site-specific commissioning documentation and reports.
  • Support cross-team coordination, communications, and consensus.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years demonstrated experience in electrical power system field engineering.
  • BS in Electrical, Systems or Computer Engineering or 5+ years of related electrical power systems field experience.
  • Solid working knowledge of utility scale software control systems.
