Job Description

⚡ Role: Senior Battery Data Scientist / AI/ML Engineer

💼 Industry: Renewable Energy and Battery Storage Solutions

💰 Salary: $180k+

As a vital part of the Data Science and Software Engineering team, you will drive the improvement of my clients’ software while also assisting with product development. As a Senior Battery Data Scientist/ML Engineer, you will help to develop battery models, simulation tools, forecasting methodologies, performance analytics for defect identification and lifespan optimization of lithium-ion energy storage systems.

Day to Day Duties:

  • Developing and implementing models to forecast and monitor battery performance, such as state of charge (SoC), imbalance, state of health (SoH), and round-trip efficiency.
  • Analyse field data, use lab results, and provide prognostic suggestions for battery system optimisation.
  • Preprocess data, do quality checks, and create and manage databases for high-performance analysis.
  • Create and validate statistical models and algorithms for machine learning deployment, working with technical and product teams.
  • Develop dashboards, GUIs, and detailed documentation to aid with data visualisation, software development, and algorithm enhancements.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of applicable data analytics experience, primarily with lithium-ion batteries.
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in battery chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering, or related subjects.
  • Proficient in Python (3+ years) with expertise processing large amounts of data and using statistical approaches.
  • Experience in numerical methods, machine learning/AI approaches, and differential equation solvers.
  • Thorough grasp of battery domain expertise, such as cell chemistry, battery management systems (BMS), and energy storage systems.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with lithium-ion battery simulation methodologies and knowledge in battery end-of-life modelling.
  • Academic or work experience in renewable energy, with an emphasis on the energy sector.
  • Prior expertise with production systems that use advanced machine learning algorithms and data analytics.
  • Experience with open-source data analytics platforms.
