Ambri, an energy company commercializing innovative battery technology developed at MIT is seeking an entry-level Battery Characterization Engineer to perform post-mortem cell analysis and materials characterization of liquid metal battery cells and components. The successful candidate is curious and eager to learn and engage, is a self-starter who is excited to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Reporting to the Manager, Analysis Engineering, you will utilize analytical laboratory techniques and instrumentation to collect and interpret data for the purposes of failure mode identification and mitigation, novel design evaluation, quality assurance, and understanding the fundamental behavior of materials during cell operation. This role is for the curious individual who loves to problem solve and has a propensity for a heavy workload. Responsibilities
  • Support product development through the hands-on data collection and imaging of samples, interpretation and analysis of results, and documentation and communication of findings
  • Assist with the upkeep and calibration of instrumentation, organization of samples and supplies, and compliance with company safety policies.
  • Identify areas for improvement in existing processes and workflows and suggest new analytical approaches toward gaining a better understanding of the mechanisms and limitations underlying our technology
  • Assure consistency of results through the documentation of operating procedures and written instructions

Requirements

  • BS degree in Engineering, preferably in Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a similar field.
  • The ability to understand the fundamental scientific principles underlying the operation of a liquid metal battery, including basic concepts within the following topics: electrochemistry, chemical thermodynamics and phase transitions, and mechanical properties of materials
  • Familiarity working in a laboratory environment and the ability to understand and follow basic laboratory safety practices
