OVERVIEW

Remote positions are also considered.

The Project Development Associate will play a key role on a small team focused on revolutionizing renewable energy investment. The Associate will be reporting to the Senior Manager of the Western Region and will support the acquisition, development, and management of Sunwealths growing portfolio of solar projects, with an emphasis on the Western region of the United States. This includes independently developing and managing external partnerships, projects, and pipelines. This role is highly external-facing, involving daily interactions with new and existing partners and customers.

The Associate will also assist the Senior Manager in building out a regional business development strategy, determining which markets align best with Sunwealths investment parameters and overall corporate mission to provide solar financing to diverse communities to change who benefits from renewable energy. While reporting to the Senior Manager, the Associate will have the opportunity to work across disciplines, supporting our project finance, asset management, community solar, investor development, and business development teams. The Associate will champion growth in the western region and assist in team expansion and process improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Development and Management (75%)

  • Lead, manage and support solar project development and acquisition activities
  • Perform project financial analysis, due diligence and development tasks
  • Perform preliminary solar design and feasibility analyses
  • Serve as primary account manager for solar installation and channel partners
  • Coordinate and track solar projects under development or acquisition phase through construction and commercial operations start
  • Visit project sites on occasion for customer relations, feasibility analysis, and/or construction management

Business Development (15%)

  • Support new market research and development opportunities, including emerging solar markets, energy storage and low-income community solar
  • Lead new business development initiatives in existing and new markets
  • Represent Sunwealth at industry events, conferences, and other networking opportunities

Team Support (10%)

  • Support other associates with the development and management of projects
  • Support the asset management team with all aspects of solar project operation
  • Support both the finance and investor development teams with optimizing the matching of projects with investor dollars
  • Maintain internal Salesforce database of projects and pipelines
  • Contribute to improving internal systems and processes
  • Job description may evolve over time

DESIRED TRAITS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • 0 to 2 years experience in solar project acquisition, development and management
  • Understanding of the development and construction process for renewable energy projects is a plus
  • Knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas: project management, asset management, contract administration, or finance is a plus
  • Experience in deal execution, sales, or other similar commercial roles is a plus
  • Ability to work with cross-functional internal and external teams to achieve overall business objectives
  • Proficient with all MS Office programs, particularly Excel; Salesforce experience is a plus
  • Strong internal and external communication skills and an ability to manage multiple issues, clearly articulate concerns, evaluate solutions, and develop sound outcomes
  • Team player who can identify promising new projects, partners, and market opportunities while evaluating and mitigating potential risks
  • Quick learner with strong quantitative and qualitative problem-solving skills who can flex to meet competing needs in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of personal responsibility and ownership over project outcomes
  • Independent self-starter who is highly organized and who can work autonomously to make decisions, meet deadlines, and deliver quality work with minimal oversight
  • Desire to take on a key role in making an impact in the solar and social investing ecosystem
