Job Description

Apex Clean Energy is seeking an Associate Interconnection Manager to join its Transmission Department. Reporting to the Senior Director of Transmission & Interconnection and working closely with a small team of Interconnection Managers, the Associate Interconnection Manager will help to support grid integration tasks and interconnection processes for Apex’s fleet of projects across multiple ISOs. This new position will directly support Apex in maturing and expanding its pipeline of clean energy projects.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to be a part of the renewable energy industry onboard a recognized leader that continues to grow and accelerate the nationwide shift to clean energy. It will provide the chance to become a highly skilled subject matter expert in all aspects of grid integration procedures and interconnection processes.

The ideal candidate for this role will have an engineering or policy background with 2-3 years of experience working in the renewable energy industry and familiarity with interconnection processes. Demonstrated experience with technical, project management, and organizational skills are strongly preferred as is the ability to communicate with both internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, we seek candidates who can work well with a small team and exhibit eagerness to learn and support project tasks wherever needed. This position requires excellent organization and critical thinking skills as well as the ability to effectively communicate complex engineering and policy concepts. A successful Associate Interconnection Manager excels at attention to detail, communication, and technical expertise.

Travel: 5%

Primary Responsibilities

  • Execute assigned project tasks across regions in adherence to defined interconnection processes
  • Coordinate and complete grid integration tasks in support of project development, construction, and origination of clean energy projects
  • Provide support in filing transmission interconnection applications, reviewing studies, managing decision points, and supporting interconnection related project finance activities
  • Manage schedules and timelines and work with interconnection managers on implications
  • Assist in contract negotiations
  • Attend stakeholder and internal meetings, interfacing with both internal and external clients, and communicate information to internal teams
  • Ensure internal information accuracy by updating data rooms, preparing meeting summaries, and supporting information exchange
  • Create or improve existing technical and project management tools to support efficient management of the project portfolio
  • Track and report on changes to interconnection tariffs nationwide and participate in stakeholder workshops

Qualifications

To succeed as an Associate Interconnection Manager at Apex Clean Energy, you’ll need to excel within the following criteria:

  • 2-3 years of experience working in the renewable energy industry in either an engineering or policy role, or related experience at a utility or consulting function
  • Background in engineering, power systems, policy, project management, or related field
  • A degree in engineering, policy, or relevant subject matter is a plus
  • Experience or familiarity with interconnection processes is a plus
  • Ability to balance technical, project management, and policy skills to support project interconnection
  • Adept at analyzing and communicating complex engineering and policy concepts to a range of stakeholders
  • Experience with project management and coordination with stakeholders including managing relationships with consulting engineering firms or contractors
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Supremely organized
  • Team player with a strong work ethic who can collaborate
  • Exhibits high attention to detail and is an active learner
  • Passionate about renewable energy
  • Remote in a suitable work from home office environment; preference will be given to candidates willing to relocate to and work from our Headquarters in Charlottesville, VA, or our satellite office in Lake Elmo, MN
  • Willingness to travel if required, primarily for company events or training

Additional Information

Work Environment:

Works primarily traditional office hours in an indoor office environment. Flexible work hours allowed when work duties and business operations permit.
