Our global Sustainability Consulting practice works with companies and government agencies to promote the achievement of sustainability objectives, including deep decarbonization, climate resilience, and driving positive social impact. We help clients navigate the complex world of climate change, climate regulation, shifting consumer preferences, and the energy transition to implement sustainable operations, processes, and business models. We apply leading frameworks (e.g., Science-Based Targets, Net-Zero, RE100, etc.) and create innovative digital, programmatic, and financial solutions. Our team supports customers in a wide variety of markets, including commercial/industrial manufacturing, financial services, energy providers, life sciences, and government.
Our Sustainability and Renewable Energy Associate Directors provide wide-ranging support for client engagements. They work on multiple projects simultaneously, managing project teams and having responsibility for client communications, project schedules, divisions of labor, architecting analyses, and overseeing team dynamics. They are responsible for developing teams and individuals through coaching and feedback, promoting a culture of excellence. Many of our Associate Directors also provide deep subject matter expertise in one or more areas and serve as a resource to others.
THIS POSITION SPECIFICALLY SEEKS AN EXPERT IN RENEWABLE ELECTRICITY.CANDIDATES MUST HAVE AT LEAST 3 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE ASSESSING AND PROCURING POWER PURCHASE AGREEMENTS.CANDIDATES MUST ALSO HAVE PRIOR EXPERIENCE CREATING RENEWABLE ELECTRICITY BUYING STRATEGIES, WITH A BACKGROUND IN ONSITE GENERATION, RETAIL ENERGY SUPPLY, GREEN TARIFF PROGRAMS, AND ENERGY ATTRIBUTE CERTIFICATES.
The successful candidate will lead teams to grow the Guidehouse sustainability consulting practice and deliver meaningful change to our clients.
Key responsibilities include:
Tailoring decarbonization and sustainability offerings to specific clients
Providing content expertise and relevant technical insights on a daily basis
Leading project teams on engagements in partnership with Directors
Delivering projects (we are looking for team players who roll up their sleeves and work with teams, not people who just want to direct)
Developing an internal network to pull in resources from across our global team
Building and maintaining relationships with clients
Publishing blogs and whitepapers
Staying up to date on topics relevant to clients (especially on topics related to specific sectors we serve as well as relevant reporting agencies, frameworks, and regulators)
Being active in internal initiatives that contribute to the team and its culture
Being a role model for junior consultants
In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate advanced technical and subject matter capability and continue to gain credentials that are recognized and valued at our company and within the industry. They will actively support business development by engaging in sales activities such as the identification of new business opportunities inside and outside of existing relationships. Participation in industry associations and networking events is expected and encouraged.
What You Will Need:
University Degree and minimum 7 to 10 years of relevant experience
Experience in the energy and sustainability space in particular, experience with renewable electricity procurement for large, geographically diversified organizations
Effective communication through strong presentation development and concise storytelling
Action-oriented approaches to identifying climate adaptations and mitigation’s
Adaptability to learn a variety of industry sectors and potential climate impacts/stressors
Financial risk assessment and modeling capabilities
Ability to lead teams to create executive-level presentations with insight and impact
Comfort in corporate environments (we are looking for someone who understands the key functions of, and dynamics between, different departments and how to develop relationships across diverse objectives)
Fluency in GHG and climate-risk topics (we are looking for someone who understands the key policies, protocols, and standards)
Fluency in English
Agility in presentation storyboarding and development
Strong communication skills within the project team and at the board level
Clarity in business writing
Ability to lay out an analytical project approach and carry it forward with a team
Demonstrated success working within high-performing teams

What Would Be Nice to Have:
Experience in consulting, especially at a large firm
Ability to oversee data-heavy work
Public Sector Sustainability Experience
Social, as well as environmental, sustainability experience
PMP certification
Additional languages (e.g., Spanish, German, Chinese)
A masters degree, MBA, or higher
Familiarity with and demonstrable experience in one or more of the following:
Sustainability (e.g., greenhouse gas accounting standards, circular economy, abatement strategies, ESG)
Renewable energy, particularly PPAs, VPPAs, EACs, RECs, GOs, Battery Energy Storage Systems, and onsite generation
Climate risk, resilience, and adaptation (e.g., TCFD)
Life cycle assessments (LCAs)
Federal program management
Energy efficiency, clean infrastructure, or building engineering
ESG, social equity, and environmental justice
Energy (e.g., hydrogen economy, advanced energy technologies, electricity power and gas industries)
Environmental and sustainability policy appraisal
Energy commodity price risk management, accounting, economic and financial impact analysis
Innovation (e.g., advancement of new ideas and technologies)
The annual salary range for this position is $144,400.00-$216,600.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
