Cordelio Power, a wholly owned portfolio company of Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, is an independent renewable power producer that develops, owns, and manages renewable power facilities across North America. Cordelio has more than 1,400 MW of renewable power assets under management in Canada and the United States, and a growth pipeline of over 22,000 MW of wind, solar and storage projects.

Position Overview

The Associate, Development iis responsible for the scope, budget, and timing of grid projects under development.

Reporting to the Vice President, Development – Innovation Team, this role is best suited for a person with excellent organization and time management skills, strong technical aptitude, looking to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and collaborative environment. Cordelio will also consider candidates with transferable skills from other industries, who wish to join the rapidly evolving renewable energy industry.

This role is available to eligible US based candidates with in-office or remote accommodations.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute project development plans to meet project objectives, including cost, schedule, and resources
  • Select and manage development contractors and consultants
  • Lead land acquisition efforts by identifying target project sites and conducting outreach to, and negotiations with, landowners
  • Gather parcel and community data from both desktop research and site visits
  • Develop relationships with landowners and lead site control negotiations
  • Work with Legal teams to produce executable real estate contracts
  • Direct and evaluate real estate due diligence (title, Phase I ESA, etc.)
  • Manage contract execution and ongoing compliance
  • Lead, provide regular reporting for and make recommendations regarding project development activities including:
    • Technical assessments
    • Local municipality, county, state, federal and regional permitting
    • Land acquisition and title curative work, in cooperation with the Cordelio land team
    • Commercial and technical aspects of project interconnection
    • Environmental assessments
    • Stakeholder consultation and management
  • Research new growth opportunities, including targeted areas for greenfield development, and tracking the evolution of markets and policy
  • Support contracting and procurement administrative processes
  • Support project finance, RFP and permitting submissions, and/or M+A efforts
  • Opportunity for further role expansion into financial and/or technical aspects of project development
  • Skills & Requirements

    • University degree or equivalent in relevant disciplines (e.g., Engineering, Environmental, MBA)
    • Strong track record of successful development of US and/or Canada based wind, solar or storage projects in various markets (MISO, ISO-NE, PJM, and/or WECC experience a plus)
    • Ability to effectively communicate (by phone, in writing, and in person) with landowners, community organizations, public officials, and other key stakeholders to build project support and represent Cordelio Power. Public speaking experience a plus
    • Proven ability to work independently as well as with a team, under pressure and with time sensitive deadlines
    • Experience managing and interacting with remote and/or indirect internal and external resources, including consultants and contractors
    • Exceptional analytical and mathematical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
    • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications
    • Possesses self-starter qualities with the ability to work independently with minimal direction and time sensitive deadlines
    • Ability to prioritize several concurrent tasks in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment
    • Valid U.S. driver’s license

    • Renewable power industry experience is desirable, but not required

    Travel Requirements

    • Up to 30% primarily domestically (U.S. and Canada) associated with conferences, client meetings, site visits, corporate office meetings, etc

    Location

    • This position offers the opportunity to work in one of our office locations; remotely from home or relocate to an existing or future office location
    • Candidate must be lawfully authorized to work in the United States and travel to Canada

    Compensation & Benefits

    • The total compensation range for this position is USD $80,000 to $120,000 per year. Exact compensation will be determined by Cordelio and depends upon experience
