Idaho Power Company (IPC) — located in both Boise and Mountain Home, Idaho — is looking for an Agricultural Representative I or II to join our Customer Operations team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. What does an Agricultural Representative I or II do for us?

  • Promotes and operates company programs with customers and trade allies
  • Provides a high level of value-added customer service to all agricultural customers with a specific emphasis on irrigation and dairy customers by resolving technical, as well as billing issues
  • Works with irrigation and agricultural customers to investigate, analyze, and resolve energy-use concerns and determine company program applications
  • Tests and evaluates irrigation systems and other agricultural systems
  • Provides analysis and recommendations to agricultural/dairy customers

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge Of:

  • Hydraulics, pumps, pumping plants, and irrigation systems
  • Electrical theory, electrical systems, and panels
  • General farming practices including crop, soil, and water relationships
  • Governmental and Company agriculture-related policies and programs
  • Business accounting and sales techniques
  • Electric motors and motor types

Ag Rep II Will Also Have Knowledge Of:

  • Computer information systems
  • Electrical systems and panels, variable-speed motors and equipment used for irrigation and other farm applications (dairies, storage cellars, etc.)
  • Power-quality issues (harmonics, sags and surges) and mitigation options
  • Policies and programs of related agricultural agencies
  • Spreadsheet and graphics software for PCS
  • Tariffs, safety rules, line extension policies, etc.

Skills In:

  • Work/time management
  • Interpersonal and listening skills
  • Excellent mathematics aptitude
  • Oral and written communication
  • Informal and formal presentations

Ability To:

  • Use field testing and monitoring equipment to analyze irrigation system operation
  • Relate to the agricultural community and work with diverse customer base

  • Use portable office equipment
  • Learn and understand mechanics
  • Use common hand tools and hydraulic test equipment safely
  • Use electrical test equipment including measurements on energized and operating customer owned electrical equipment

Ag Rep II Will Also Have The Ability To:

  • Maintain and safely operate a company vehicle in accordance with company policy
  • Apply customer credit and collection policies
  • Discuss power usage, efficiency issues, and cost-benefit analyses with agricultural customers
  • Use IPC current customer information system order applications
  • Solve complex mathematics problems
  • Train customers and dealers regarding the implementation of company Demand-side Management (DSM) programs
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Understand and explain power quality terms (harmonics, sags, surges, stray voltage, and basics of on-farm electrical systems) in layman’s terms and their typical mitigation

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Ag Rep I

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agricultural field

OR

  • An equivalent experience in an agricultural-related field

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Systems Management, Agronomy, or a closely related degree

Experience:

  • Experience in an agricultural-related field

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position

Ag Rep II

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an agricultural field

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience of at least 5 years

Experience:

  • 5 years of relevant work experience in an agriculture-related field

Preferred:

  • 5 years of work experience in the following areas: irrigation system design, electric utility, dairy operations, and energy efficiency

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR card within 90 days

Preferred:

  • Certified Irrigation Designer, PE

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Job requires the ability to occasionally bend, stoop and squat, crouch, ascend/descend ladders/stairs, twist, kneel, balance, and reach; rarely crawl. Rarely lift items shoulder height and above weighing up to 50 lbs; occasionally lift items waist and knee high weighing up to 50 lbs. Requires occasional exertional force less than 50 lbs. Must be able to operate a vehicle; carry with one hand or two items weighing up to 50 lbs. Requires frequent grasping of items such as steering wheel, hand and power tools, and test equipment; and occasionally using fine motor skills to operate hand or power tools and use a computer keyboard. Applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat of harm to self, others, or property. Job placement is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment post-offer Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Maintain and safely operate a Idaho Power vehicle in accordance with Idaho Power policy; apply customer credit and collection policies; deal effectively with customers in emotionally charged situations; discuss power usage, efficiency issues, and cost-benefit analyses with agricultural customers; use IPC current customer information system order applications; solve complex mathematics problems; train customers and dealers regarding the implementation of Idaho Power DSM programs; work independently and as part of a team; work with a very diverse customer base while representing Idaho Power in a professional manner; understand and explain power quality terms (harmonics, sags, surges, stray voltage, and basics of on-farm electrical systems) in layman’s terms and their typical mitigation. Must have mechanical aptitude, the ability to learn continuously and be adaptable to change.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Job requires the physical ability to use safety and personal protective equipment properly; climb ladders and pivots, and safely work in greasy, dirty, and/or wet areas; use common hand tools and electrical/hydraulic test equipment safely; and carry field test equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for distances up to 1/4 mile. Some after-hours and weekend work, along with occasional overnight travel required.

Note: The majority of the work will be performed in Mountain Home, ID.
